A Gospel of Hope

In today’s world, it’s so easy to get caught up in all of the horrible things going on. Simply listening to the news or reading articles in the paper can make a person feel unhappy, in despair, or even hopeless. If one looks only with a worldly point of view, the future can look pretty dim. However with a more eternal point of view, one can find hope and comfort.

Today, the gospel of Jesus Christ can be a great source of hope; one of my favorite things about the gospel is the hope it brings. This hope comes through knowledge of the plan of salvation, or the plan of happiness. If we have knowledge of this plan, then we may know that God has a plan for each of us, that he sent us here to be tested and tried so that we may overcome our trials and become like him, even God, our eternal Father in heaven. He wants us all to return to him, and to help others come unto him so that we may live with him again in heaven for eternity.

It is possible for us to overcome any trial we face because our Heavenly Father knows us perfectly and would never give us a challenge we could not overcome. 1 Nephi 3:7 states, “the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.” If we follow his plan for us and do what he would have us do, we will be able to return to him and be with him and our families forever. It gives me hope to know that he has a plan for me and that he will help me in any trial I ever have to overcome.

The gospel also teaches us that we are able to be with our families forever as long as we make the right choices. This doctrine can give comfort and hope to those who have undergone great trials in life, and can be a source of healing for those who may have lost a loved one.  My heart is filled with sadness and grief for those who do not believe in a god or life after death, because such belief eliminates all hope. I cannot imagine losing someone and believing that I will never see them again, but because of the gospel of Jesus Christ I don’t have to. I know that if someone I love dies, I will be able to see them again in heaven when I pass away. I’m comforted by the fact that we can be together again and feel such immeasurable joy in being reunited. I know that God has a plan for each of us, and that if we follow his teachings and commandments that he will help us in our trials, we will regain a sense of hope, and that we will be able to return to live with him and see those that we love again.
